This notice covers the website only. If you become a client, we will give you a fuller privacy notice covering the information we handle in the course of your accountancy work, including the identity checks we are required to carry out.
2. What we collect
If you fill in the enquiry form on our contact page, we collect:
- your name
- your email address
- your phone number, if you choose to give one
- whatever you write in the message box
Only the name and email address are required. Please don't put sensitive details such as bank information, tax reference numbers or health information into the message box. If we need anything like that, we will ask for it through a secure route once we are talking properly.
If you email or ring us instead, we hold whatever you choose to tell us in that message or conversation.
We do not buy personal information from anyone, and we do not track you across other websites.
3. Why we use it, and our lawful basis
We use what you send us to reply to your enquiry, answer your question and, if it goes that way, talk about becoming a client. That is all.
Our lawful basis under the UK GDPR is legitimate interests: you have approached us about our services, and replying to you is what you would reasonably expect us to do with your details. We have considered whether this is fair to you and concluded that it is, because you chose to make contact and we use the information for nothing beyond answering you.
We will not add you to a mailing list or send you marketing off the back of an enquiry unless you separately ask us to.
5. How long we keep it
If your enquiry doesn't lead anywhere, we delete it within twelve months.
If you become a client, your details move into our client records and are kept for as long as we act for you, and then for a further six years after our engagement ends. That period is not our choice. It reflects the record-keeping obligations that apply to accountancy firms and the time limits for claims.
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- Show you what personal information we hold about you
- Correct it if something is wrong or incomplete
- Delete it, where we have no continuing reason or legal duty to keep it
- Restrict what we do with it while a question about it is sorted out
- Object to our using it on the basis of legitimate interests
- Transfer it to you or to someone else in a portable format, where that right applies
Email craig@telfordaccountancy.co.uk and we will respond within one month. There is no charge. We may ask you to confirm who you are first, so that we don't hand your information to somebody else.
8. Complaints
If you think we have handled your information badly, please tell us first. Most things are sorted out quickly with a phone call.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. You can go to them directly; you do not have to come to us first.
9. Changes to this notice
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. This notice was last updated on 1 September 2026.
