About the firm

A local firm that treats your business like our own

Telford Accountancy is an ACCA-registered practice based on Castlegate in Berwick-upon-Tweed. We look after businesses and individuals across Northumberland, the Scottish Borders, Newcastle and Edinburgh, from tradespeople and shops to hospitality, farming, property and manufacturing.

Sitting right on the border, we're used to working either side of it. What that means in practice is straightforward advice from someone who knows your business and picks up the phone.

  • A dedicated accountant, not a call centreYou deal with the same person who knows your business.
  • Fixed monthly feesAgreed up front, spread across the year, no hourly-rate surprises.
  • Cloud accounting specialistsXero, QuickBooks, Sage and FreeAgent: set up, migrated and supported.
  • Proactive adviceWe flag opportunities and problems before they land on your desk.
Craig Telford, director of Telford Accountancy
Craig Telford Director · ACCA

Craig has spent over twenty years in accounting and audit, starting straight from school. He has worked with sole traders, partnerships, limited companies, charities and farming businesses. That is why the practice is as comfortable with a farm's seasonal cash flow as it is with a shop's VAT return.

He set up Telford Accountancy to do the job the way he thinks it should be done: fixed fees agreed in advance, a phone answered by the person who knows your file, and advice that arrives before the deadline rather than after it.

How we work

Four things we do differently

Clear fixed pricing

You'll know what you're paying before we start and exactly what it covers. One fixed monthly fee, agreed up front, with no hourly clock running in the background. If the work changes, we'll talk it through with you first rather than putting it on an invoice.

Quick, straight answers

Ring with a question and you'll get an answer you can act on, not a maybe. Most things we can settle on the call, and anything bigger we'll come back on and tell you when.

In it for the long run

We're not interested in one-off jobs. The longer we work together the more use we are, because we come to know your numbers, your seasons and your plans. The advice gets sharper each year instead of starting cold every January.

Thinking ahead

We track every HMRC and Companies House deadline that applies to you, so nothing sneaks up. But the bigger value is further out: what next year's tax bill actually looks like, whether now is the moment to buy the van or take someone on. Decisions are easier when you've seen them coming.

Who we work with

Working both sides of the border

We act for businesses from the Scottish Borders down through Northumberland, and on into Newcastle and Edinburgh. Different trades, different seasons, different worries, but the same deadlines and the same need for someone who understands how the work actually gets done.
